Email marketing top five rules
Promoting your products or services by email can be a cost effective and powerful form of direct marketing. You can also tailor your message to specific types of customer more cost-effectively than with printed materials.
1. You should carefully plan your email marketing to make it relevant and interesting to recipients. You also need to be aware that you must always obtain their consent before sending them marketing emails.
2. When sending your first sales emails give enough thought to what yoiu are trying to achieve. Don't even think about emailing potential customers unless you are clear in your own mind about what you want to say.
3. First impressions do count and a badly worded email or unclear message can turn people off. Before writing an email always think about why you are sending it, what you want to say and what reaction you want. Before pressing send always review the email and try to put yourself in the shoes of the recipient - if I received the email how would I respond? If you feel uncomfortable re-write it or don't send it.
4. Think about frequency of your emails bearing in mind if you offer the same content every time people will soon loose interest. Only send you email when you have something new to offer but often enough to stay in touch.
5. Emails sent on a Monday are likely to be deleted with the rest of the spam from the wekend so wait until Tuesday lunch time up to Thursday afternoon before the "I'll look next week" sets in. You should also keep an eye on your email lists as some businesses change their email address every year.
